![]() 2010 Richard Brodeur Golf Tournament Once again, BCPWSA will be a beneficiary (and participant) in the 2010 Richard Brodeur Charity Classic golf tournament. The tournament will be on Thursday, July 8th, at the Meadow Gardens Golf Club in Maple Ridge. Preparations by the organizers and volunteers start around 9:30, the tournament starts at noon and ends at about 6:00 followed by dinner with both silent and live auctions, and a bit of entertainment. Everything winds down by 9:00 pm. This year the theme will be Motown - music, dress from the late sixties, and more. Our group will once again be assigned to the 18th hole where we do a wee bit of PWS education, give out something so the golfers will remember our organization, and kick off the "pink ball competition". (The 18th is a difficult hole with three islands. If a golfer makes it to the green without losing his/her pink ball, they are entered into a contest for a secret prize.) We need about five of our members to work the hole, and perhaps a couple more to help out at the tournament in any capacity Richard needs helping hands. Besides helping out on the day of the event, the beneficiary organizations are always asked to help bring in donations for the auctions and sponsors for the tournament. We have sponsorship/donation information and forms for you prepared by Andrea, the event coordinator. This year, they would rather have fewer auction items of higher quality .... more experiences for the bidders (i.e. trips, sporting events, dinners with chefs, etc.). Having said that, wine is always a good item, and can be assembled into a larger auction package. We have been specifically asked not to encourage "logo" items and the golfers rarely bid aggressively on such items. As was the case last year, donations for the auction must be delivered to Andrea by July 1st at the latest so that it can be included in all of the written materials. There will also be a "launch party" approximately one week before the tournament where some items will be auctioned off to create a bit of a buzz, so the earlier donated items are sent in the better. If you get items to Bev Baldwin, he will cart them to Andrea. We have had great financial success over the past few years being part of this tournament and can expect to be equally successful this year. The recession of 2009 resulted in less of a contribution to BCPWSA than in prior years, but thing appear to be improving and the organizing committee is confident it will be a better year in 2010. Please do what you can to help raise donations, and if we need more volunteers at the tournament (which we will know in the next six weeks), let Bev know and he will pass on your contact information. |
